The Old Bakery project
Location
Burton Road, Lincoln
Areas
Bar, Restaurant, Kitchen
For The Old Bakery, we transformed the previously underutilised front-of-house into a bar and casual dining space, creating a cosy, speakeasy-style interior. The layout introduces flexible seating and intimate nooks, ideal for afternoon coffees, light bites and evening cocktails.
Working with the building’s low ceilings and historic fabric, including the original bakery ovens and exposed beams, we introduced heritage-style furniture and marble tables inspired by traditional pastry work surfaces. Colours, textures and forms were carefully chosen to reflect the site’s baking heritage.
Using Little Greene’s Sweet Treats collection, rich chocolate browns and honeyed caramels cocoon the space, creating a moody atmosphere with subtly distinct identities between the bar and dining areas. Fluted walnut, gentle curves and soft velvet add warmth and comfort, with rounded, dough-like forms echoing bread and chocolate éclairs.
These are set against the building’s more industrial elements, exposed brickwork, original quarry tiles and simple glass lighting, to create a layered, characterful transformation within a modest budget.
